The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said
\npreliminary findings into the death of former Cabinet minister and veteran
\npolitician Cyrus Jirongo indicate that the incident was a road traffic
\naccident, with no evidence so far pointing to foul play.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Monday, the DCI said Jirongo died on the
\nnight of December 13, 2025, at the Karai area along the Nakuru\u2013Nairobi Highway.
\n<\/p>\n
Investigators were deployed immediately after the incident
\nto establish the circumstances surrounding his death.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wishes to
\nupdate the public on the ongoing investigations into the tragic death of Hon.
\nCyrus Jirongo,\u201d the statement said, adding that a multi-agency team was
\nconstituted to handle the case.<\/p>\n
According to the DCI, the team comprised homicide
\ndetectives, experts from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and
\nforensic specialists from the National Forensic Laboratory. <\/p>\n
The investigators visited and processed the scene, secured
\nand preserved exhibits, and documented physical evidence.<\/p>\n
The detectives also recovered CCTV footage from an Egol
\npetrol station near the scene, which is undergoing forensic review. <\/p>\n
In addition, the bus manifest and amateur videos captured at
\nthe scene were obtained and subjected to analysis.<\/p>\n
As part of the probe, statements were recorded from several
\nkey witnesses, including Jirongo\u2019s widow, Ann Lanoi Pertet, who was the first
\nfamily member contacted after the incident. <\/p>\n
Statements were also taken from the driver and conductor of
\nthe Climax bus involved, as well as staff at the petrol station.<\/p>\n
The DCI further disclosed that senior politicians Moses
\nWetang\u2019ula, Rebman Malala and Ibrahim Sambul\u2014who had interacted with Jirongo at
\nKaren Oasis restaurant on the evening of December 12, 2025\u2014voluntarily recorded
\nstatements to assist investigators.<\/p>\n
Seven passengers from the bus also presented themselves to
\nrecord statements, while detectives questioned Julius Kiprotich Chelule, the
\ndriver of an alleged rescue bus with registration number KCU 573A.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the evidence gathered and analysed to date, the
\nincident appears to be a road traffic accident, with no indications of foul
\nplay,\u201d the DCI said.<\/p>\n
The agency noted that once remaining investigative processes
\nare concluded, the file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of
\nPublic Prosecutions (ODPP) for further directions, including the possibility of
\ncriminal charges against the PSV driver in line with the available evidence.<\/p>\n
The DCI extended its \u201cdeepest condolences to the family,
\nrelatives and friends of Hon. Cyrus Jirongo\u201d and urged the public and political
\nleaders to avoid speculation that could prejudice the investigations or cause
\npublic anxiety.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny person who possesses information that they believe may
\nassist the ongoing investigations is encouraged to come forward,\u201d the statement
\nsaid, reiterating its commitment to \u201cimpartial, thorough and expeditious
