width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Subsidised fertiliser at the NCPB depot in Eldoret \/ MATHEWS NDANYI<\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\ngovernment has distributed more than 2 million bags of subsidised fertiliser to&#13;<br \/>\nNational Cereals and Produce Board depots across the country in&#13;<br \/>\nreadiness for this year\u2019s planting season.<\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nconsignment is part of more than four million bags of fertiliser required for&#13;<br \/>\nthe new planting season, which usually starts by the end of next month.<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture PS Kiprono Rono said the government was still receiving&#13;<br \/>\nmore fertiliser, which is being transported from Mombasa to various NCPB&#13;<br \/>\ndepots.<\/p>\n<p>A week&#13;<br \/>\nago, Rono was at the NCPB Eldoret depot to receive part of the fertiliser&#13;<br \/>\nconsignment that has already arrived and is now being distributed ahead of the&#13;<br \/>\nplanting season.<\/p>\n<p>He&#13;<br \/>\nassured farmers that the government was well prepared ahead of the planting&#13;<br \/>\nperiod and that no hitches were expected in the distribution of the fertiliser.<\/p>\n<p>The PS&#13;<br \/>\nsaid by the end of this period, the government expects to have brought in all&#13;<br \/>\nthe more than four million bags required for the planting season.<\/p>\n<p>The&#13;<br \/>\nfertiliser is being distributed to all the 32 NCPB depots countrywide, and Rono&#13;<br \/>\nsaid the government will work closely with county administrations to ensure&#13;<br \/>\nthe fertiliser reaches all farmers.<\/p>\n<p>In an&#13;<br \/>\nupdate on the subsidised fertiliser programme, Rono said the government had&#13;<br \/>\nensured that the consignment being distributed was of high quality and had been&#13;<br \/>\napproved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.<\/p>\n<p>The government is keen to maintain high production of maize and other&#13;<br \/>\ncrops, hence the move to ensure fertiliser reaches farmers in good time.<\/p>\n<p>Rono said e-vouchers to be used by farmers to buy the subsidised fertiliser from&#13;<br \/>\nNCPB depots have already been processed.<\/p>\n<p>NCPB&#13;<br \/>\nNorth Rift manager Gilbert Rotich said the board is ready to handle the&#13;<br \/>\ndistribution of the subsidised fertiliser to farmers.<\/p>\n<p>The board has put in place arrangements to ensure staff are available at the&#13;<br \/>\ndepots round the clock to receive fertiliser consignments from Mombasa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#13;<br \/>\nalready have farmers who have started buying the subsidised fertiliser, and&#13;<br \/>\nNCPB is well prepared to serve the farmers as required,\u201d Rotich said.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers&#13;<br \/>\nin the region, led by Paul Kiptoo, have welcomed the move by the government to&#13;<br \/>\nstock fertiliser early enough ahead of the planting season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge&#13;<br \/>\nthe government and counties to ensure the fertiliser is taken to all buying&#13;<br \/>\ncentres and NCPB depots so that farmers can easily access it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kiptoo&#13;<br \/>\nurged the government to ensure seeds and other farm inputs are&#13;<br \/>\ndistributed to all areas to allow farmers easy access.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Subsidised fertiliser at the NCPB depot in Eldoret \/ MATHEWS NDANYI The&#13;
