\nbursaries and school fees support from the county government as learning
\ninstitutions reopen this week.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 government has allocated Sh230 million
\nin the current financial year to support learners at different levels of
\neducation, targeting needy, vulnerable, and high-performing students.<\/p>\n
Governor Irungu Kang\u2019ata on Sunday presided over the issuance
\nof bursary cheques to parents during an event held at Ihura Stadium in
\nMurang\u2019a, attended by Kitui Senator Enock Wambua and local leaders.<\/p>\n
Kang\u2019ata said the county\u2019s education
\nprogrammes were designed to promote equity, merit, and access while ensuring
\npublic resources deliver long-term impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cEducation is the foundation of a progressive society. In
\nMurang\u2019a, we are deliberately building systems that reward merit, protect the
\nvulnerable, and ensure that no child misses school because of poverty,\u201d
\nKang\u2019ata said.<\/p>\n
The beneficiaries include learners from day secondary
\nschools, orphans, students living with disabilities, as well as those supported
\nunder the Inua Masomo Programme, ward bursaries, and the Kenya Junior School
\nEducation Assessment (KJSEA) scheme.<\/p>\n
Under the Inua Masomo Programme, the county fully pays
\nschool fees for the top 30 students in every day secondary school. The
\ninitiative targets the top 10 students in each class, identified through
\nend-of-year examinations.<\/p>\n
Each beneficiary receives Sh11,000 annually, disbursed per
\nterm, covering the full school fees for the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cInua Masomo is about ending favouritism and rewarding hard
\nwork. We want children to know that excellence will always be recognised,
\nregardless of their background,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n
Top-performing pupils from public primary schools who sat
\nthe KJSEA will each receive Sh10,000 in school fees support.<\/p>\n
Orphans and learners living with disabilities have also been
\nprioritised through targeted bursaries, reinforcing the county\u2019s commitment to
\ninclusive education.<\/p>\n
Each ward has been allocated Sh3 million to support needy
\nstudents. Beneficiaries are identified through ward committees working closely
\nwith churches and community leaders to ensure fairness and transparency.<\/p>\n
Beyond bursaries, the county government has continued to
\nstrengthen early learning, with over 500 ECDE classrooms constructed or
\nrefurbished across the county.<\/p>\n
Additionally, 40,000 children receive free, nutritious
\nporridge daily, supporting learning through improved nutrition.<\/p>\n
The county is also investing in youth employability through
\nthe Murang\u2019a Youth Service Programme, where 6,000 young people are currently
\nenrolled in Vocational Training Centres, acquiring practical and market-ready skills.<\/p>\n
Governor Kang\u2019ata said the interventions reflect a
\ndeliberate strategy to invest in human capital.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur focus is on building a skilled, educated population.
\nWhen we invest in education and youth skills, we are investing in Murang\u2019a\u2019s
\nfuture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Murang\u2019a county government says education and skills
