{"id":6614,"date":"2026-01-06T07:00:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/6614\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T07:00:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:00:08","slug":"over-50000-muranga-students-receive-bursaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/6614\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 50,000 Murang&#8217;a students receive bursaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/b30f4c0e-0afd-4a99-8d7c-211d981bfd2c.jpg\" class=\"ui-draggable ui-draggable-handle\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>Murang&#8217;a Governor Irungu Kang&#8217;ata during a bursaries issuance exercise at Ihura stadium in Murang&#8217;a town on January 4, 2025 \/ALICE WAITHERAMORE than 50,000 students across Murang\u2019a county have received&#13;<br \/>\nbursaries and school fees support from the county government as learning&#13;<br \/>\ninstitutions reopen this week.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 government has allocated Sh230 million&#13;<br \/>\nin the current financial year to support learners at different levels of&#13;<br \/>\neducation, targeting needy, vulnerable, and high-performing students.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Irungu Kang\u2019ata on Sunday presided over the issuance&#13;<br \/>\nof bursary cheques to parents during an event held at Ihura Stadium in&#13;<br \/>\nMurang\u2019a, attended by Kitui Senator Enock Wambua and local leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Kang\u2019ata said the county\u2019s education&#13;<br \/>\nprogrammes were designed to promote equity, merit, and access while ensuring&#13;<br \/>\npublic resources deliver long-term impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducation is the foundation of a progressive society. In&#13;<br \/>\nMurang\u2019a, we are deliberately building systems that reward merit, protect the&#13;<br \/>\nvulnerable, and ensure that no child misses school because of poverty,\u201d&#13;<br \/>\nKang\u2019ata said.<\/p>\n<p>The beneficiaries include learners from day secondary&#13;<br \/>\nschools, orphans, students living with disabilities, as well as those supported&#13;<br \/>\nunder the Inua Masomo Programme, ward bursaries, and the Kenya Junior School&#13;<br \/>\nEducation Assessment (KJSEA) scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Inua Masomo Programme, the county fully pays&#13;<br \/>\nschool fees for the top 30 students in every day secondary school. The&#13;<br \/>\ninitiative targets the top 10 students in each class, identified through&#13;<br \/>\nend-of-year examinations.<\/p>\n<p>Each beneficiary receives Sh11,000 annually, disbursed per&#13;<br \/>\nterm, covering the full school fees for the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInua Masomo is about ending favouritism and rewarding hard&#13;<br \/>\nwork. We want children to know that excellence will always be recognised,&#13;<br \/>\nregardless of their background,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>Top-performing pupils from public primary schools who sat&#13;<br \/>\nthe KJSEA will each receive Sh10,000 in school fees support.<\/p>\n<p>Orphans and learners living with disabilities have also been&#13;<br \/>\nprioritised through targeted bursaries, reinforcing the county\u2019s commitment to&#13;<br \/>\ninclusive education.<\/p>\n<p>Each ward has been allocated Sh3 million to support needy&#13;<br \/>\nstudents.
