higher, increasing the likelihood of a rate cut.<\/p>\n<p>Investors currently expect at least two U.S. rate cuts this year, while they look to the non-farm payroll report, due on Friday, for more monetary policy cues.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Phillips, Treasury specialist at Umkhulu Treasury, said in a research note that Kashkari&#8217;s comments were viewed as dovish by operators and that services and composite PMIs for December, being released in all major economies, could provide an even better indicator of the direction of monetary policy.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic traders will also look to the S&amp;P Global December whole-economy PMI <a data-testid=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/quote\/ZAPMIM=ECI\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC link-module__with-icon__qlg76\">(ZAPMIM=ECI), opens new tab<\/a> at 0715 GMT for clues on business conditions in the country.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s benchmark 2035 government bond was firm in early deals, as the yield fell 1.5 basis points to 8.19%.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"SignOff\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__extra_small__8Buss body-module__full_width__kCIGb body-module__extra_small_body__Bfz20 sign-off-module__text__LQAMP\">Reporting by Anathi Madubela;
