{"id":6805,"date":"2026-01-06T09:14:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/6805\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T09:14:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:14:08","slug":"dci-amin-declares-a-new-war-on-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/6805\/","title":{"rendered":"DCI Amin declares a new war on drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/b677b4eb-0afb-4728-8609-c2ab913e8c75.jpg\" class=\"ui-draggable ui-draggable-handle\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>DCI Mohamed Amin during a tour of Marsabit county \/DCI<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Criminal&#13;<br \/>\nInvestigations, Mohamed Amin, has pledged a robust and uncompromising&#13;<br \/>\napproach to combating drug and substance abuse in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Wrapping up a security assessment&#13;<br \/>\ntour in Marsabit county, he\u00a0announced plans to strengthen the DCI\u2019s Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) with advanced tools, intelligence capabilities and forensic resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to heighten our&#13;<br \/>\noperations on the drug menace in the country,&#8221; Amin said, describing substance abuse as a profound threat to national development and security.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We use this opportunity to warn&#13;<br \/>\nthe barons and consumers at large.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amin said collective action is urgently needed to protect communities, particularly young people, from the devastating effects of alcohol and drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>He called for stronger collaboration between communities and police, while warning that law enforcement officers complicit in illicit networks will face strict consequences.<\/p>\n<p>The DCI director commended officers&#13;<br \/>\nfor their dedication, while emphasising the role of local communities in&#13;<br \/>\nidentifying and dismantling drug networks.<\/p>\n<p>Marsabit, he said, is among the leading drug trafficking routes in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He directed police commanders&#13;<br \/>\nnationwide to take decisive action against sellers, traffickers and&#13;<br \/>\ndistributors of illicit substances. <\/p>\n<p>Amin also warned that any government&#13;<br \/>\nofficial or police officer found protecting or enabling drug networks will be&#13;<br \/>\nheld fully accountable, stressing that no one is above the law in this critical&#13;<br \/>\nfight.<\/p>\n<p>During the tour, Amin visited&#13;<br \/>\nseveral police stations, assessed operational readiness and engaged directly&#13;<br \/>\nwith officers and local residents to boost morale and foster collaboration. <\/p>\n<p>His remarks come on the heels of&#13;<br \/>\nsimilar warnings from Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who&#13;<br \/>\ndeclared 2026 a decisive year in the fight against drug and substance abuse. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the year we are liberating&#13;<br \/>\nour youth from the yoke of drug and substance abuse.
