The African National Congress (ANC) has hit out at its Government of National Unity (GNU) partner, the Freedom Front Plus, saying the party\u2019s views on the situation in Venezuela are ill-informed and minimalistic.<\/p>\n
The views come after FF Plus leader Corn\u00e9 Mulder criticized a statement released by the Department of International Relations (DIRCO) condemning the United States\u2019 invasion of Venezuela and subsequent kidnapping of its president, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Posting on his X account, Mulder said DIRCO\u2019s statement does not represent all parties in the GNU.<\/p>\n
\u00a0The post on his personal account stated that \u201cthe end of the socialist failure in Venezuela should be welcomed.\u201d<\/p>\n
His views were in direct opposition to those of the government, which condemned the actions of the USA.<\/p>\n
\u00a0The ANC\u2019s first deputy secretary general, Nomvula Mokonyane, says it\u2019s surprising there are parties in the GNU that advocate for the undermining of democracy.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cTheir view is ill-informed, a view that is minimalistic and does not look at a better world but an issue about self-interest. Venezuela is a sovereign state, and the role of America against a sovereign state is not something you can easily say you don\u2019t agree with the ANC on.\u201d She added.<\/p>\n
