The children were travelling back to school,&#8221; Motorists Association of Kenya said in a tweet on X.<\/p>\n<p>The incident comes a day after\u00a0the National Transport and Safety Authority\u00a0renewed its call for motorists to exercise caution around schools, warning that reckless driving in school zones puts the lives of children at serious risk.<\/p>\n<p>In a public safety message, NTSA urged drivers to be mindful and reduce speed when approaching areas where schoolchildren are present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe mindful and slow down in school zones,\u201d the notice read in part.<\/p>\n<p>On December 30, NTSA also issued an\u00a0advisory in which the authority urged all road users to take extra precautions ahead of the busy back-to-school period. Schools are set to reopen in just a few days.<\/p>\n<p>The authority emphasised that private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents or guardians all share a responsibility in safeguarding young commuters.<\/p>\n<p>Road users are being advised to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan journeys carefully, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn just a few days, thousands of children will be heading back to school. Private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents or guardians all share a significant responsibility in safeguarding the safety of our children during this busy season,&#8221; NTSA said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We urge all road users to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan their journeys adequately, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NTSA also reminded parents and guardians not to allow children to board non-compliant vehicles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bus carrying students overturns at Kimende A bus carrying students has overturned\u00a0in Kimende along the Nairobi\u2013Naivasha highway.
