GANG violence flared up again in Manenberg on Monday evening after a quiet festive season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to sources in the community, an alleged Hard Livings gang member was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting incident on Lyne Road at around 7.35pm.<\/p>\n
A resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said: \u201cThere have been no shootings during the festive season. Monday was the first.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Another community member said: \u201cI really don’t know how this shooting started. The shooting just started yesterday all of a sudden that was around about 6.30pm after I left for work.<\/p>\n
\u201cThankfully there weren’t any shootings on Tuesday morning, but we don’t know what to expect.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala reported: \u201cManenberg police are investigating a murder case, following the death of a 22-year-old male in Lyne Road, Manenberg at around 7.35pm on 5 January 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe deceased was shot by unknown gunmen, who chased him from Lyne Road to a field. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds on his head and right leg, and he was declared dead by medical personnel on the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Bonteheuwel an alleged Fancy Boys member was shot and wounded in Kiaat Road.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that a 35-year-old male was shot and injured around 11.15pm.<\/p>\n
Van Wyk stated: \u201cPolice members responded to a complaint of a shooting at the mentioned address, and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie confirmed that it was a gang-related shooting and that no innocent bystanders were injured.<\/p>\n
McKenzie said: \u201cA male, identified as a Fancy Boy gang member, was shot multiple times and is currently in critical condition in hospital, fighting for his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have personally spoken to the victim\u2019s mother, who is known to me and who has already endured much hardship. As a parent, my thoughts are with her during this extremely difficult time.<\/p>\n
He added that the recent surge in gang-related shootings in Bontas se T Block is unacceptable and has placed innocent lives at risk.<\/p>\n
McKenzie added: \u201cThe ongoing retaliation cycle is reckless and is tearing at the safety of this community.<\/p>\n
