Publishers have received a major boost ahead of the rollout of
\nsenior school under the Competency-Based Curriculum after the government on
\nTuesday released Ksh.5.64 billion for the printing and distribution of Grade 10
\ntextbooks.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Education\u00a0disbursed\u00a0the funds
\nto\u00a0be used in settling part of the outstanding debts owed to publishers
\nand to facilitate the printing of 35 approved textbooks and literary works for
\nGrade 10 learners in public schools.<\/p>\n

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) CEO Prof.
\nCharles Ong\u2019ondo, in a joint statement with the Kenya Publishers Association
\n(KPA) Kiarie Kamau, confirmed payments to publishers and clearing of pending
\nbills had already begun.<\/p>\n

\u201cKICD had already initiated the process of disbursing the
\nfunds to the 23 publishers with pending bills,\u201d read the joint statement,
\nadding that the money is expected to reflect in publishers\u2019 accounts by Friday,
\nJanuary 9, 2026.<\/p>\n

The two bodies further assured publishers that the government
\nwould release additional funds to clear the remaining arrears.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditional funds would be availed in due course to fully
\nclear the outstanding arrears amounting to Ksh.4.4 billion,\u201d added the statement,
\nalso noting that the move is expected to ease financial pressure within the
\npublishing industry.<\/p>\n

KPA welcomed the move, terming it a step towards restoring
\nconfidence between the government and publishers. <\/p>\n

The association commended KICD for what it described as
\ntransparency during the engagement and pledged to proceed with printing even as
\npayments are finalised.<\/p>\n

Publishers assured the institute that they would commence
\nprinting\u00a0immediately,\u00a0with at least half of the books expected to be
\ndelivered to schools by January 16. Full printing and nationwide distribution
\nis targeted to be completed by January 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

To coordinate the rollout, KICD and KPA agreed to form an ad
\nhoc joint committee to oversee the logistics of distribution across the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n

Both institutions expressed confidence that the process would
\nbe completed within January, averting shortages of learning materials as the
