The next destination for the Cup came at an unexpected location: Dakar’s Rebeyss Prison, the country’s largest and busiest penitentiary.

The purpose of the visit, according to the organizers, was to make the award “close to everyone,” to convey a sense of national pride and solidarity to a wider audience. For this reason, prisoners had the opportunity not only to see the continent’s most prestigious award with their own eyes but also to touch it. This initiative is said to have been implemented with the support of the Senegal Football Federation.

However, this decision caused various reactions in society. Videos and photos from Rebeiss prison quickly spread on social media: the footage shows the trophy being brought closer to the prisoners, and some try to reach for the prize by reaching out from behind bars. In short, the “trophy tour” this time amazed people – some called it a humanitarian step, while others accepted it as “how far did it go?”

As a reminder, in January, the Senegal national team defeated Morocco 1-0 in the final and won the Africa Cup of Nations. After this victory, the award, presented to the “Teranga Lions,” is being distributed throughout the country as a symbol of national pride.

One thing is clear: this trophy in Senegal is not just a trophy – it is a great symbol trying to unite both the team and society. Only the question of where and how to display the symbol is still debated.

 Read “Zamin” on Telegram!

Found a mistake?

Select the phrase and press Ctrl+Enter

The Africa Cup of Nations trophy continues its tour through Senegal – and this journey is not just…

[48
63,28420,43577,12872,43582,43581,43578,27460,517,7881,43579,43576,32271,159,2862,43575,23868,43574,43580,43583
post-75672","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-senegal","tag-africa","tag-award","tag-being","tag-continues","tag-destination","tag-driven","tag-journey","tag-location","tag-national","tag-nations","tag-parade","tag-pride","tag-prisoners","tag-senegal","tag-society","tag-symbol","tag-through","tag-trophy","tag-truly","tag-unexpected
["GET
