{"id":7920,"date":"2026-01-06T20:31:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T20:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/7920\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T20:31:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T20:31:12","slug":"police-under-fire-cops-targeted-in-brazen-shooting-innie-elsies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/7920\/","title":{"rendered":"POLICE UNDER FIRE &#8211; Cops targeted in brazen shooting innie Elsies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COPS came under fire in Elsies River on Tuesday as a police vehicle was struck by a bullet while officers responded to a shooting in Clark Estate.<\/p>\n<p>The shocking incident unfolded on Old Stellenbosch Road when police rushed to reports of gunfire and were met by a hostile skare, with shots ringing out and one bullet hitting a police vehicle on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said: \u201cElsies River Police attended a complaint of a shooting in progress at Old Stellenbosch Road, Clark Estate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon arrival, they saw a group of people gathered then they heard gunshots coming from the crowd.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA police motor vehicle was damaged by a bullet during this incident. Police registered a case of attempted murder, attack on police and public violence for further investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Acting Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety in the Western Cape Tertius Simmers strongly condemned the brazen and reckless act of geweld.<\/p>\n<p>Simmers said: \u201cAny attack on law enforcement is an attack on the rule of law and represents a direct threat to the safety and security of our communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese acts of violence seek to undermine the authority of the State and endanger those who work tirelessly to protect our residents. Such behaviour will not be tolerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further urged mense to work closely with cops by coming forward with information that may assist in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Ward Councillor Charles Esau also condemned the incident and appealed with the community to be careful and safe and said he was against people attacking cops.<\/p>\n<p>Esau stated: \u201cI ask our communities to respect our law enforcement agencies as they are there to keep the area safe and to ensure that everyone is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111, make use of the MySAPS App, or call the City of Cape Town\u2019s tip-off line on 0800 1100 77.
