Accra, Jan. 6, GNA \u2013 President John\u00a0Dramani\u00a0Mahama\u00a0has\u00a0stated\u00a0that Ghana\u2019s current 17th International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout must be the last for the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said the Government was taking steps to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization, restore fiscal discipline, rebuild confidence in the financial sector, and support indigenous enterprises to grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cEconomic resilience is not achieved through austerity alone, but through production, inclusion, and shared prosperity,\u201d President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said in his opening remarks at the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Accra.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The four-day\u00a0programme, organized by the School of Continuing and Distance Education under the College of Education of the University of Ghana, is on the theme: \u201cBuilding the Ghana We Want, Together for Sustainable Development.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0noted that the extended credit facility\u00a0programme\u00a0with the IMF had been\u00a0very successful.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will\u00a0emerge\u00a0from the extended credit facility with the IMF towards the middle of this year. And it is my hope that this will be the very last time we will ever go for a bailout from that international monetary institution. It must be the 17th and the last time that Ghana goes for a bailout from the IMF,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He added that Ghana could continue its collaboration with the IMF under Article 4 and other\u00a0instruments, but\u00a0stressed: \u201cIt will definitely be the last time we go on our knees to beg for a bailout.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Touching on human capital development as the engine of growth, President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said no nation had ever developed beyond the quality of its people.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He emphasized that education, skills, health, and innovation were the foundations of sustainable growth and urged Ghanaians to improve learning outcomes at all levels, especially at the basic level, to equip children with critical skills for higher education.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Madam Marietta\u00a0Agyeiwaa\u00a0Brew, Chairperson of the University Council, said the Annual New Year School and Conference had\u00a0established\u00a0itself as a platform for critical discourse on all\u00a0facets\u00a0of national life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She noted that by harnessing the\u00a0expertise\u00a0of diverse professionals, the\u00a0School\u00a0had consistently evolved, driving a research and development agenda that extended beyond the University into the heart of the nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
