{"id":8135,"date":"2026-01-06T23:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T23:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/8135\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T23:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T23:13:08","slug":"current-imf-bailout-must-be-the-last-for-ghana-president-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/8135\/","title":{"rendered":"Current IMF\u00a0bailout\u00a0must\u00a0be the\u00a0last for Ghana \u2013 President\u00a0Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By\u00a0Iddi\u00a0Yire\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Accra, Jan. 6, GNA \u2013 President John\u00a0Dramani\u00a0Mahama\u00a0has\u00a0stated\u00a0that Ghana\u2019s current 17th International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout must be the last for the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the Government was taking steps to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization, restore fiscal discipline, rebuild confidence in the financial sector, and support indigenous enterprises to grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEconomic resilience is not achieved through austerity alone, but through production, inclusion, and shared prosperity,\u201d President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0said in his opening remarks at the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Accra.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The four-day\u00a0programme, organized by the School of Continuing and Distance Education under the College of Education of the University of Ghana, is on the theme: \u201cBuilding the Ghana We Want, Together for Sustainable Development.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President\u00a0Mahama\u00a0noted that the extended credit facility\u00a0programme\u00a0with the IMF had been\u00a0very successful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will\u00a0emerge\u00a0from the extended credit facility with the IMF towards the middle of this year. And it is my hope that this will be the very last time we will ever go for a bailout from that international monetary institution.
