{"id":8190,"date":"2026-01-06T23:54:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T23:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/8190\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T23:54:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T23:54:13","slug":"patient-34-accused-of-murdering-his-carer-a-mother-of-4-who-had-arrived-in-uk-from-kenya-2-years-earlier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/8190\/","title":{"rendered":"Patient, 34, accused of murdering his carer, a mother of 4 who had arrived in UK from Kenya 2 years earlier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/profile-886\/claire-duffin.html\" class=\"author\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CLAIRE DUFFIN, SENIOR REPORTER<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Published:  07:15 EST, 6 January 2026   |  Updated:  07:15 EST, 6 January 2026   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A man has appeared in court accused of murdering his carer, a nurse who arrived in the UK from Kenya two years earlier.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">David Walsh, 34, denied killing Irene Mbugua, 46, a single mother of four.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She was found dead by police officers at a property in Markby Road in the Winson Green area of <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/birmingham\/index.html\" id=\"mol-f995b330-eaf5-11f0-9e38-4fbc484ee46a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> shortly before 1am on June 23 last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A post-mortem examination revealed she died as a result of serious head and face injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Walsh appeared by video link from HMP Birmingham on Tuesday wearing a prison-issue grey tracksuit to enter his not guilty plea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Walsh, of Markby Road, was told his trial will start on February 23.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-4b9b37962b6fc761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/105271415-15438481-image-a-20_1767700808809.jpg\" height=\"931\" width=\"634\" alt=\"David Walsh, 34, appeared in court on Tuesday where he denied killing Irene Mbugua, 46, a single mother of four.\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">David Walsh, 34, appeared in court on Tuesday where he denied killing Irene Mbugua, 46, a single mother of four.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A JustGiving page set up to help Ms Mbugua&#8217;s relatives with funeral costs said she moved to the UK from Kenya to work in care two years before she was &#8216;brutally murdered &#8230;while at work&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Organisers said her four children had been &#8216;left without their breadwinner&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In a tribute issued after Ms Mbugua&#8217;s death, her family said: &#8216;We are so lost without you and we pray for grace to face each day, mum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;Your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don&#8217;t have a map yet.
