On 31 December 2025, just as Capetonians were gearing up for New Years Eve, a Mercedes motorist (allegedly from Gauteng) failed to gear down.<\/p>\n

According to the Atlantic Seaboard Community Forum (ASCF<\/a>), a speeding Mercedes driver ploughed into a property on the corner of High Level and Glengariff Roads in Sea Point, Cape Town.<\/p>\n

The speed limit on High Level Road is 50km\/h, and the crash occurred right by a traffic light. Residents have raised concerns that the driver may have jumped a red light.<\/p>\n

The South African contacted the Sea Point SAPS, who are aware of the incident. They will provide further comment at a later stage.<\/p>\n

The wrecked car has been identified as a Mercedes-Benz GLE\/ C-Class coupe.<\/p>\n

Driver \u2018fled the scene\u2019<\/p>\n

A member of ASCF, who claims to reside at the property, said the crash could easily have turned fatal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is my apartment that this absolute piece of trash decided to drive through, ruining our New Year,\u201d the resident commented<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe [the driver] could easily have killed my family and friends who were outside in the garden just an hour before. And he fled the scene. We\u2019re in total shock.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judging by the photos, the speeding car tore down the property\u2019s boundary wall, taking out a tree and a neighbouring fence in the process.<\/p>\n

Later on New Year\u2019s Day, the resident noted how authorities had eventually tracked down the driver \u2013 who was taken into custody.<\/p>\n

A speedy stretch on High Level Road<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s accident follows a well-publicised case of reckless and negligent driving<\/a> last year on the same road.<\/p>\n

Nigerian rapper 3GAR Baby wrecked his McLaren 570s coupe on High Level Road last March.<\/p>\n

In a video that went viral via CCTV footage, the rapper was seen speeding down the residential road. He was recorded at driving 200km\/h<\/a>.<\/p>\n
