Prosecutors allege he traveled from the United Kingdom to Somalia between Jan. 29 and March 4, 2025, and entered an area described in court as an extremist \u201cstronghold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mohamoud appeared Friday at the Old Bailey for a preliminary hearing before Justice Cheema-Grubb, who set a provisional trial date of Aug. 3 at Winchester Crown Court.<\/p>\n<p>A plea and case management hearing is scheduled for June 19, to be held either at the Old Bailey or at Winchester.<\/p>\n<p>During Friday\u2019s hearing, Mohamoud spoke only to confirm his identity. He was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>British prosecutors allege that Mohamoud plotted terrorist acts and traveled to Somalia to support ISIS-linked militants. Authorities did not disclose further details in open court regarding the nature of the alleged preparations.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia has faced threats from both al-Shabab, an al-Qaida-affiliated group, and a smaller ISIS-linked faction that operates primarily in parts of Puntland.<\/p>\n<p>Under U.K. law, the offense of preparing for terrorist acts carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
