Chinese firms are refurbishing the Tazara Railway that runs through the country into Zambia. Li Qiang made a <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/china-premier-makes-landmark-zambia-trip-west-vies-investment-foothold-2025-11-19\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">landmark trip<\/a> to Zambia in November, the first visit by a Chinese premier in 28 years.<\/p>\n<p>The railway is widely seen as a counterweight to the U.S. and European Union-backed Lobito Corridor, which connects Zambia to Atlantic ports via Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.<\/p>\n<p>By visiting the southern African kingdom of Lesotho, Wang aims to highlight Beijing&#8217;s push to position itself as a champion of free trade.
