ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 19.
\nTurkmenistan sets its focus on the formation of digital transport
\ncorridors along the \u201cNorth-South\u201d and \u201cWest-East\u201d directions,
\n
\nTrend<\/a> reports via the Turkmen MFA.<\/p>\n

The statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of
\nMinisters of Turkmenistan Batyr Annaev in Geneva, Switzerland. The
\nTurkmen delegation, led by Annayev, is participating in the 88th
\nsession of the UNECE Committee on Inland Transport (CIT). The
\nsession brings together heads of transport ministries,
\ninternational organization leaders, transport business
\nrepresentatives, and experts and runs from February 17 through
\nFebruary 20.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the high-level segment, the head of the Turkmen
\ndelegation noted that Turkmenistan regards the digital
\ntransformation of transport as a strategic priority of state
\npolicy.<\/p>\n

“Turkmenistan is currently implementing the systemic
\nmodernization of the regulatory framework in the field of
\nelectronic document management and the implementation of mechanisms
\nfor interstate information exchange,” he said.<\/p>\n

The speech also highlighted practical cooperation with the
\nUnited Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the
\ndigital transformation of multimodal transport, the development of
\nautomated data exchange, and the alignment of national initiatives
\nwith the global sustainable development agenda, including the
\nTurkmen-proclaimed Decade of Sustainable Transport for
\n2026-2035.<\/p>\n

Turkmenistan has maintained active cooperation with the UNECE,
\nestablishing a framework for dialogue and joint action since 1993.
\nThe partnership focuses on sustainable development, energy,
\ntransport and transit connectivity, and regional integration.
\nTurkmenistan has confirmed its commitment to UNECE mandates and
\nleverages the Commission as an effective platform to implement UN
\nglobal solutions at the regional level.<\/p>\n

Key objectives include promoting sustainable energy, reducing
\nmethane emissions, and developing resilient, safe transport
\ncorridors across Central Asia, while translating international
\nagreements, such as the Third UN Conference on Landlocked
\nDeveloping Countries (LLDC3) outcomes and the Avaza Action
\nProgramme 2024-2034, into practical regional initiatives.<\/p>\n

In January 2026, Ashgabat hosted the high-level SPECA Week,
\nconvened under the UN Special Programme for the Economies of
\nCentral Asia (SPECA), which Turkmenistan chaired in 2025. The
\nevent, held from January 20 to 23, brought together government
\nofficials from Central Asian countries and international
\norganizations, including UNECE, the United Nations Economic and
\nSocial Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the World Bank,
\nand delegates from Azerbaijan and other partners, to discuss
\nexpanded cooperation in transport, trade, energy, and digital
\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
