{"id":932,"date":"2026-01-03T18:31:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-03T18:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/932\/"},"modified":"2026-01-03T18:31:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T18:31:11","slug":"canada-warns-tourists-of-fraud-and-crime-risks-in-namibia-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/932\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada warns tourists of fraud and crime risks in Namibia &#8211; News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Canadian government has warned its citizens travelling to Namibia to \u201cexercise a high degree of caution,\u201d citing high levels of crime and frequent cases of financial fraud, particularly targeting tourists.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest travel advisory issued last week, Canada said crime remains a concern across Namibia, with violent incidents reported mainly in the capital, Windhoek.<\/p>\n<p>According to the advisory, these include muggings, burglaries and carjackings.<br \/>\u201cViolent crime occurs, particularly in Windhoek,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond violent crime, Canada also warned of an increase in financial crimes and scams targeting tourists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCases of attempted fraud are frequently reported in Namibia. Credit card copying in some hotels and lodges occurs,\u201d the advisory said.<\/p>\n<p>Tourists were also urged to remain alert when using automated teller machines (ATMs).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBe extra vigilant at ATMs, as criminals may attempt to distract you or offer assistance with the aim of stealing your money,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n<p>Petty crime was also flagged as a concern, with Canada noting that offences such as \u201cpickpocketing, bag snatching and cellphone theft occur regularly,\u201d particularly in popular tourist areas.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce risk, Canadian travellers were advised to keep personal belongings secure at all times, including passports and travel documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAvoid showing signs of affluence or wearing expensive jewellery.
