« Impossible de payer mon loyer » : Comment l’Union Européenne cherche à « briser » Nathalie Yamb
At the end of June, Nathalie Yamb was severely sanctioned by the European Union. The 27 member states criticized her for her « pro-Russian » activities and positions. The activist is therefore banned from entering and transiting the Schengen area. Her assets in the EU are frozen. She cannot benefit directly or indirectly from funds or economic resources from the European Community area.

Since Switzerland is not part of the EU, « The Lady of Sochi » did not take these punitive measures seriously at first.
“When I learned about the sanctions, I wasn’t worried. I was Swiss by birth. Switzerland isn’t in the European Union. I hardly ever travel, not even with European airlines, and I don’t have a single credit note or even a single cent in the EU. So, at first, I completely underestimated the impact of the sanctions. But my smile quickly faded,” the activist said in a video posted on X.
I cannot “return to Switzerland to manage emergencies”
In reality, these European Union (EU) sanctions were, in themselves, devastating for the Swiss-Cameroonian.
« At an extraordinary pace, I have experienced the tentacles of the extraterritoriality of European lawlessness. One after the other, my credit cards on accounts in Switzerland, Africa, and online banks have been blocked. My accounts themselves, blocked; my cryptocurrencies inaccessible. My Paypal accounts closed, as well as my Amazon, Airbnb, Deezer, and eBay accounts. Contracts canceled. Impossible to pay my rent, my taxes, my insurance, my lawyers, my medication. Impossible to buy a plane ticket, listen to music, take an Uber, place an order online, or pay a hotel bill, » Nathalie Yamb recounted. Better still, the activist revealed that she cannot « return to Switzerland to manage emergencies since the sanctions include a ban on overflying EU territory, while Switzerland is completely landlocked, » surrounded by France, Austria, Germany, and Italy.
“A socio-economic death penalty”
For her, the 27 condemn her to a « socio-economic death penalty and civil erasure, by cutting her off from everything, in a digitalized environment. »
« The unprecedented violence they are using against me to achieve their political goals is called terrorism, » denounced the Swiss-Cameroonian.
They are resorting to this form of « terrorism » not only to « break me and especially to send a message to those who might be tempted to think or act like me, » warns the friend of Kemi Seba and Juan Branco. The Franco-Spanish lawyer is also ready to defend her, because in reality, Ms. Yamb does not intend to stand by and watch the « violence » of these sanctions.
« Dead goat is not afraid of knife »
« This time I’m not going to stand by and react. This time, what they started, we’re going to finish. Not because I particularly want to travel around Europe, but rather to show them that from now on, with me and the other leaders of the fight for African emancipation and sovereignty, it will be two eyes for one eye and the whole jaw for one tooth, » warned the influencer.
She warns: « We will also show them that we can beat them on the legal front. They know very well that with everything they are doing there, they do not scare me and they will not scare me. Cabri mort is not afraid of the knife. I will show them that the courts are a battleground on which we can inflict a defeat as monumental as the one they suffered on the military, diplomatic, communication, geostrategic and informational fronts in Africa. »
