OpenAI has announced the general availability of the GPT-5.6 family of models following a limited preview period.
The new lineup includes GPT-5.6 Sol, the company’s flagship model, along with Terra, designed as a balanced option for everyday work, and Luna, a more cost-efficient model, News.Az reports, citing OpenAI.
GPT-5.6 Sol introduces improvements in intelligence and efficiency, delivering leading performance across areas including coding, knowledge work, cybersecurity, and scientific tasks. OpenAI says the model achieves stronger results than previous and competing frontier models while using fewer tokens and reducing estimated costs.
The latest release focuses on improving performance per dollar, allowing users to complete more advanced tasks within the same budget or achieve similar outcomes at a lower overall cost.
OpenAI has also introduced “ultra,” a new high-capability setting designed for complex workflows. The feature coordinates multiple agents across parallel workstreams to help complete demanding tasks more efficiently.
With enhanced computer-use capabilities and improved design judgment, GPT-5.6 Sol is positioned as OpenAI’s most refined collaborative model yet, helping users analyze, improve, and deliver production-ready results.
