New Delhi: Anthropic started rolling out rupee-denominated pricing for its Claude artificial intelligence subscriptions in India, allowing users to view and pay for the service in local currency instead of US dollars.
The pricing has begun appearing for some Indian users across Claude’s website and mobile applications. Anthropic has not yet confirmed that the rollout is available to every user in the country.
Claude Pro costs Rs 2,399 a month
Claude Pro is priced at Rs 2,399 per month for users opting for monthly billing.
Under annual billing, the effective price falls to Rs 2,000 per month, with users paying Rs 24,000 upfront for the year.
Anthropic’s international pricing structure follows a similar distinction between monthly and annual subscriptions. Its global pricing page lists Pro at $20 a month or an effective $17 per month when $200 is paid upfront annually.
Claude Pro provides higher usage limits than the free plan and access to a wider set of Claude capabilities.
The plan includes Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design and Claude Science. It also offers Research, unlimited projects for organising conversations and documents, access to additional Claude models and integration with Microsoft 365.
Anthropic does not assign a fixed number of prompts to the plan. Usage depends on factors such as the selected model, the length and complexity of conversations, attached files and the features being used.
The company said Pro provides at least five times more usage than the free plan during a rolling five-hour session. Paid subscriptions are also subject to weekly limits.
Claude Max starts at Rs 11,999
Claude Max, aimed at users who require higher limits and longer working sessions, is available in two variants in India.
The Max 5x plan costs Rs 11,999 per month, while the Max 20x plan is priced at Rs 23,999 per month. Both are billed monthly.
The two Max plans provide the same broad set of features as Claude Pro. The principal difference is the amount of usage available.
Max 5x provides five times the usage of Pro, while Max 20x offers 20 times the Pro allowance during each rolling five-hour session.
Max subscribers also receive higher output limits, priority access during periods of heavy traffic and earlier access to some advanced Claude features.
Claude Team pricing starts at Rs 2,399 per user
Anthropic also introduced rupee pricing for Claude Team, which is designed for organisations with five to 150 users.
The Team Standard plan costs Rs 2,399 per user per month on annual billing. Users opting for monthly billing will pay Rs 2,999 per user per month.
The Team Premium plan costs Rs 11,999 per user per month when billed annually, while its monthly price is Rs 14,999 per user.
Standard seats provide more usage than Claude Pro, while Premium seats offer five times the usage available with Standard seats.
The Team offering includes centralised billing and administration, single sign-on, enterprise search, controls for connectors and tools for deploying Claude’s desktop application across an organisation.
It also includes Claude Code, Cowork, Design, Science and Microsoft 365 connectivity. Anthropic said content belonging to Team customers is not used for model training by default.
Enterprise subscriptions remain available separately through Anthropic, with pricing determined according to seats and usage.
Free plan remains available
Claude’s free plan continues to be available in India at no cost.
It provides access across the web, desktop, iOS and Android applications and includes tools for writing, editing, coding, web search, file creation and data visualisation, subject to usage limits.
The free plan also supports memory across conversations, desktop extensions and connections with services including Slack and Google Workspace.
UPI payments not available yet
While users can now see subscription prices in rupees, Anthropic has not enabled payments through the Unified Payments Interface.
Subscriptions purchased through Claude’s website currently require a credit or debit card. Users subscribing through the mobile applications can pay using the methods supported by Apple or Google.
The rollout therefore localises Claude’s pricing and tax display, although its payment process does not yet include one of India’s most widely used digital payment methods.
India is Claude’s second-largest market
India accounts for 5.8% of Claude’s global consumer usage, making it the platform’s second-largest market after the United States, according to Anthropic.
Claude usage in India also remains heavily oriented towards professional and technology-related work. Software-related tasks accounted for 45.2% of the country’s occupationally mapped Claude activity, the highest proportion among the markets studied by Anthropic.
Anthropic formally opened its Bengaluru office in February 2026. The company said its India run-rate revenue had doubled since it announced its expansion plans in October 2025.
