Google is finding new places to integrate Gemini. The latest spot is inside the Google Pay app in the form of a new “Ask Google Pay” feature, which is a new Gemini-powered conversational AI experience built into the Google Pay app. It helps users better understand their finances through natural conversations. For those unfamiliar, Google Pay is a digital payments app that lets you send money, pay bills, and make purchases online or in stores using your phone. It’s quite popular in markets like India.

Ask Google Pay uses Gemini AI to answer questions about your finances

As the name indicates, this new experience will allow users to ask questions in natural language about their spending patterns, insights, and more. Users can ask questions like “how much did I spend on dining last week,” and more. Google also says that users can discover ways to save money based on their transaction history. The AI assistant will analyze a user’s transaction history and credit report data with Google Pay to offer personalized suggestions. This is much better than seeing just a transaction list.

Besides the spending analysis, the assistant can break down financial concepts like compound interest or the difference between tax regimes. One can chat with it to get tailored offers like finding the right credit card for travel expenses, and even learn about SIPs or credit scores.

Supports multiple languages

Google says Gemini will offer answers in a language users speak and understand. The company notes it already supports 10 Indian languages. Users can interact with the assistant using both text input and voice queries. The basic idea here is to make financial information accessible and easier to understand without requiring a separate platform/resource.

Google clarifies that Ask Google Pay offers financial information and insights for educational purposes only. It also says the assistant will keep your financial data safe and “entirely under your control.”
