Google Maps is getting agentic AI features that let users order food, book hotels, and receive personalised travel assistance through Ask Maps.
Google on Thursday announced that Google Maps is gaining a slew of new agentic AI capabilities, including the ability to order food, book hotels, and find event tickets. The tech giant is also bringing Personal Intelligence to Ask Maps, allowing the AI-powered feature to personalise its responses by drawing on information from a user’s Gmail and Google Calendar.
The new additions highlight Google’s plans to transform Google Maps from a simple navigation tool into an intelligent assistant capable of helping users complete real-world tasks.
With the new agentic food ordering capabilities, users can open Ask Maps and ask questions such as, “Where can I order Idly Sambhar and an latte near home?” The tool will then identify nearby restaurants that match the request.
To further streamline everyday errands, users will be able to place online food orders directly through Maps or ask the AI to add the required items to their cart. Google Maps is also gaining hotel booking capabilities, allowing users to search for accommodation simply by entering a natural language query. According to Google, the feature can compare prices, check availability, and present suitable options. Once users find a hotel they like, they can click through to a partner’s website to complete the booking or initiate an order.

The addition of Personal Intelligence will enable Ask Maps to provide personalised answers about upcoming flights, dinner reservations, hotel bookings, and other travel plans by using information from Gmail and Google Calendar. The feature will also remember details from previous conversations, allowing users to continue where they left off. For example, users can ask, “What activities had you suggested for my trip”
Google is also introducing a Live Transit widget within Ask Maps, enabling users to receive real-time updates on transit delays, disruptions, and changing travel conditions. Both Personal Intelligence and the Live Transit widget will roll out across all markets where Ask Maps is currently available.
With Gemini already integrated into Google Assistant and Android Auto, these new additions further expand Google’s AI-powered ecosystem. However, they also raise an important question: as more AI features are layered into navigation and in-car experiences, could the interface become overly complex for everyday users rather than simplifying their journeys?
