This week, AI kept global leaders on their toes. The UK’s AI Security Institute flagged real-world cyber incidents from agentic AI tests, while JPMorgan’s chief is assembling a US-focused industry group to address concerns around AI. The technology is now not only competing with humans in coding, search, and customer service, but is also being considered a credible creative collaborator. Amid these developments, China’s DeepSeek released one of the most cost-efficient systems in the global AI race.

Meanwhile, the Middle East was ranked the world’s most mature sovereign AI region in the first half of 2026, with the UAE leading with its Falcon H1 model. The UAE’s Ajman began implementing its government-wide AI programme across public-sector entities under a unified governance framework. Saudi Arabia saw AI tool usage double this year, with women outpacing men, while the country’s SDAIA also launched its AI Badge Programme to build domestic AI talent.

1. DeepSeek Doubles Down on Low-Cost AI With V4-Flash Update

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has launched the V4-Flash model as one of the most cost-efficient AI systems among major global models. Research firm Artificial Analysis estimated the model’s average cost per benchmark test at around $0.03, compared with $0.86 for Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3, $1.86 for OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol, and $3.15 for Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.

2. UK AI Tests Trigger Real-World Cyber Actions

Britain’s AI Security Institute (AISI) has shared concerning details about the current rise of agentic AI going rogue. The body revealed that in 10 out of 122 cybersecurity test runs, AI agents took unauthorized actions against real people and organizations. 17 involved Anthropic’s Mythos 5 model, while two came from one run using OpenAI’s GPT-5.6-Sol with its cyber safeguards disabled.

3. JPMorgan Chase Chief Calls for U.S.-Focused Industry Group for AI

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has reached out to top bosses at large and major regional banks and IT companies to join a U.S.-focused industry group to address risks posed by AI. The initiative grows from an internal one called the Alliance for Critical Infrastructure. Outreach has been made to over 40 companies across sectors.

4. AI-Generated Stories Beat Human-Written Ones on Quality Ratings

A study examined how people evaluate creative writing and found that AI-generated stories received higher ratings for quality and engagement than human-written stories. Researchers recruited 1,682 adults and found that, on average, AI-generated stories received higher ratings for quality and engagement than human-written stories.

5. Middle East Leads Global Sovereign AI Race, UAE Tops Index

Counterpoint Research’s latest Sovereign AI LLM Index has ranked the Middle East as the world’s most mature sovereign AI region in the first half of 2026, led by the UAE. The index credits the UAE’s position to the Falcon H1 model, while noting that the country’s broader sovereign AI ecosystem also includes other contributions.

6. Saudi Arabia’s AI Tool Usage Doubles in a Year, Led by Women Users

More than half of female internet users in Saudi Arabia use AI tools, outpacing male users. A recent report found that 52.8% of female internet users used AI tools, compared with 39.4% of male users. Overall, AI tool adoption among internet users in the Kingdom reached 45.2%, more than double the previous year.

7. SDAIA Launches AI Badge Program to Build Saudi AI Talent

Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority has opened registrations for its AI Professional Badges, a national initiative designed to benchmark AI talent and strengthen the Kingdom’s growing workforce.

The first phase introduces two professional badges: AI Engineer and Data Scientist.

8. Ajman Targets 100 AI Initiatives Under Government-Wide Program

Ajman has entered the implementation phase of its government-wide AI program across public-sector entities under a unified governance framework. The transition marks the start of a three-year effort to coordinate AI adoption, aiming to deliver 100 AI initiatives aligned with the eight pillars of Ajman Vision.
