Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it the company’s 14th product to achieve the MAUs.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the figure in a post on X, saying, “1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done. It’s our fastest-growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark. Kudos to @JoshWoodward & the entire Gemini team, and thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us – much more to come!”

The record puts Gemini alongside OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which crossed 1 billion monthly active users in June.

Google has integrated its AI assistant into products including Search, Workspace, Android and its standalone app. The 1 billion figure refers specifically to the Gemini app and does not include users accessing Google’s AI features through other products.

The company noted 63% of Gemini users interact with the app using voice. One in five Gemini Live interactions also use camera or screen sharing. Among students, 38% of school-related requests include an attachment, while users generate more than 150 million images through Gemini each day.

The company also said the AI assistant can automate actions across more than 40 apps. More than 100 million people use the app on iOS, while users on MacOS submit about twice as many prompts as those on other platforms.

The latest figure marks an increase from the 950 million monthly active users Google reported during its second-quarter 2026 earnings call in July. At the time, the company said daily active users had tripled over the previous year.

The company has continued to expand its Gemini model lineup, including Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite. Gemini 3.5 Pro is being tested, while it has begun pre-training work on Gemini 4.

Businesses are also using Gemini to build custom agents, automate processes, improve cybersecurity, manage customer relationships and analyse data. Demand from developers and enterprise customers has increased token usage, while supply constraints have affected model availability.

The announcement comes ahead of Google’s Made by Google event, where the company is expected to announce more Gemini-powered features for its Pixel devices.
