Sansan adds Claude AI agent to Contract One

Sansan’s Contract One service introduces an AI agent feature powered by Claude.

Sansan Inc. has started offering an “AI Agent Powered by Claude” function for its Contract One contract AX service, integrating Anthropic’s Claude model to support legal and contract-related work, the company said on August 17.

The new function opens a chat screen from an “AI Agent” button within Contract One, allowing users to enter natural-language questions and instructions related to contracts. Sansan said the tool can search across multiple contracts and assist with tasks including contract review based on past agreements.

The AI agent returns answers after searching and checking large volumes of contracts stored in Contract One. Contract One stores contracts as structured data, including links among related agreements and normalization of company information after events such as name changes.

Sansan gave examples of queries the tool can handle, including requests to summarize the status of contracts with a specific company by analyzing multiple agreements with parent-child relationships. It also said the AI agent can respond to more complex questions such as identifying advisory agreements a company holds or counting outsourcing contracts that explicitly specify a quasi-mandate arrangement, a Japanese contract form used when work is entrusted without guaranteeing a specific completed deliverable.

A “Skill” function is also available within the AI agent. When a user uploads a draft contract, the system automatically performs an AI-based review against the user’s in-house standards.

Use of the function requires a subscription to a plan that includes the feature.

Sansan said it launched the offering as generative AI spreads in business settings and draws attention for legal work, where staff often need to search, compare and analyze large amounts of contract and transaction data. The company said legal departments spend substantial time on manual checks, responding to contract-related inquiries and reviewing agreements, limiting time available for more strategic work.

Contract One is Sansan’s contract AX service, with AX referring to services aimed at changing work processes through digital tools. The platform centrally manages contracts in both paper and electronic formats and combines in-house AI with operator corrections to extract data accurately and automatically link related contracts.

Tokyo-based Sansan was founded in 2007 and also provides the Sansan sales AX service, Eight business card app, Bill One accounting AX service and Sansan Data Intelligence.
