Cloudflare announced Cloudflare Wallets and cloudflare.pay, a system designed to provide AI agents deployed on its platform with stable identities and the ability to make online purchases within limits set by their users.

AI agents can browse websites, access APIs and make purchases on behalf of users and organisations. Cloudflare said existing internet infrastructure and bot-detection systems were primarily designed for human users and traditional web crawlers, making it difficult for businesses to determine whether an AI agent is acting on behalf of a legitimate user or is being used maliciously.

Cloudflare Wallets will provide accounts with a unique web address that can serve as a stable identifier. Users will also be able to associate specific AI agents with their identity so businesses receiving requests can identify the account that authorised the activity.

The system will include a Cloudflare Account Wallet that can receive, hold and manage stablecoins. Users will be able to assign Virtual Wallets to individual agents, with controls including spending limits, approved merchant lists and maximum transaction amounts.

Cloudflare said the Wallets and cloudflare.pay systems are intended to support transactions between AI agents and online businesses.

“ The Internet is shifting from human-driven browsing to agent-driven commerce, and the infrastructure needs to keep up,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “When an agent shows up at your door, you need to know who sent it. Cloudflare can give agents a face – a link to the human or organization that owns them – so that trust, accountability, and real commerce can follow. It’s the identity and payment infrastructure the agentic web needs to function.”

Cloudflare Wallet handle reservations are open, while full wallet functionality, including onramping and offramping funds and issuing Virtual Wallets, is expected to become available in the coming months.
