OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT for Teens Who Do Not Directly Do Homework

JAKARTA – OpenAI launched ChatGPT for teenagers aged 13 to 17 with a different approach in helping homework. Instead of giving answers directly, ChatGPT for teenagers is designed to guide students to solve problems gradually through the Study Mode feature.

The program uses the Responsible Homework Reminder feature when users ask for help doing homework. If a student asks the chatbot to write an essay or solve a complex math problem, the system will direct the conversation to Study Mode.

In this mode, ChatGPT functions more like a tutor than an answering machine. The system can ask follow-up questions and provide step-by-step guidance so that students can find the answers themselves.

ChatGPT for teenagers can also create short quizzes to test students’ understanding of the material being studied. This approach is intended to help users understand the problem-solving process, not just complete the task.

In addition to the learning feature, OpenAI introduced a number of controls for parents. One of them is Study Hours which allows parents to specify a certain time when ChatGPT will be locked in Study Mode.

OpenAI also provides a Quiet Hours feature that can stop access to ChatGPT during the child’s sleep hours. With this setting, parents can determine the schedule for using the chatbot according to study and rest times.

OpenAI said the system was designed with the privacy of young users in mind. Although parents get some control over their children’s use of ChatGPT, they can’t read their children’s conversations.

The launch of ChatGPT for teenagers is part of OpenAI’s efforts to provide a more appropriate AI usage experience for users aged 13 to 17. The learning and parental control features are designed to help teenagers use the chatbot as a learning companion, not just a tool to get homework answers.
