The world’s hottest hyperscalers have deepened their relationship with Google Cloud and Oracle each giving the other more of the best it has to offer and thereby creating enormous new business value and potential for mutual customers.
As I’ve noted before, a major consequence of the breakneck pace of change here in the AI Revolution is that even the biggest and best Cloud Wars Top 10 vendors have realized that strategic partnerships are the only way to meet the rapidly evolving and escalating needs of customers.
So, while Google Cloud and Oracle will no doubt continue to compete savagely in multiple areas —particularly cloud and AI infrastructure — their shared decision to join forces in helping customers drive successful AI transformations is creating huge opportunities for both hypergrowth players.
Now, as I brush aside the cobwebs of time and try to remember the final couple of lines from the grade-school jingle referenced in the headline above, I seem to recall something about “marriage” and “baby carriage.” I’m surely not implying that things will ever go that far — ergo my decision to cut things off at the kissing stage — but I believe strongly that as customers confront new and unprecedented competitive pressures, advanced-technology requirements, and drastically foreshortened timetables, we will see more and more precisely orchestrated intimacy between vendors that in other sectors will continue to battle intensely against one another.
What makes the Google Cloud/Oracle pairing so intriguing is that they’re ranked #1 and #2 on the Cloud Wars Top 10 by virtue of their blistering growth rates, which directly reflects surging customer demand for what each is offering and how each is offering it. A quick recap of that demand:
So, how are these cloud and AI powerhouses collaborating to boost their chances of matching or even exceeding those gaudy results? To me, what jumps out is the scope of the partnership and how it extends from the crown jewels for each company: Google Cloud’s wildly successful Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise AI platform and the Oracle AI Database.
Gemini Models Available in Oracle and NetSuite Applications
Two big themes from both companies were the need for customers to have more and more choices and the freedom to deploy the model(s) that best suit their specific needs, and the powerful and synergistic combination of model-centric technologies plus agentic-application execution.
Google Cloud’s Kevin Ichhpurani, president, Global Partner Ecosystem:
“Our partnership with Oracle brings Google’s most capable AI models directly into the core application workflows global businesses rely on every day. Together, we are making it seamless for enterprises to apply powerful and cost-efficient AI directly where business decisions happen.”
Oracle’s Chris Leone, executive vice-president of applications development:
“To achieve the best business outcomes, organizations need the flexibility to choose the AI model best suited to each problem. By bringing Gemini to Oracle AI Agent Studio for Fusion Applications, we are giving customers and partners greater choice as they build and extend agents and agentic applications that reason through complex, real-world business challenges. Oracle Fusion Applications then turn that reasoning into action through governed workflows, approvals, and transactions.”
Earlier this year, Oracle and Google Cloud fused the power of the Oracle AI Database with the Gemini Enterprise platform to make it “easier for organizations to use AI to reason over their most important business data.”
And from the combined Oracle/Google Cloud offering, here’s the key benefit for customers looking to leverage AI and cloud to drive better business outcomes:
This collaboration is especially impactful because 97% of Fortune 100 companies already rely on Oracle to run mission-critical workloads. By connecting Gemini Enterprise directly to that data, customers can access real-time business context where it already lives, without requiring duplication or complex pipelines.
The momentum of the Google and Oracle collaboration also extends to Oracle AI Database@Google Cloud, where we continue to expand new integrations, capabilities, and regional availability as part of our growing partnership.
Final Thought
Looping back to my somewhat-goofy headline, it’s no doubt a stretch to imply that there’s anything “romantic” going on between the two companies. But what is undeniably taking place is a growing willingness among the world’s top AI and cloud companies to defy decades of claw-your-eyes-out competitiveness and instead look to join forces where the customer benefits are enormous.
And to anyone who’s wondering how far such shenanigans might go, well, just remember that right here and right now, the sales teams from Google Cloud, Microsoft, and AWS are all selling the Oracle Database to their customers.
That gives a whole new meaning to k-i-s-s-i-n-g.
And all that follows.
