Anthropic’s general counsel has announced that he is exiting his role to become the artificial intelligence company’s “international special envoy.”
Jeffrey Bleich announced his job change on LinkedIn, noting that he will now be working with governments around the world.
“The decisions being made around AI policy right now, in capitals on every continent, will shape the development of this technology for decades,” Bleich said in the post. “This role brings together the two halves of my career, law and diplomacy, and I could not be more excited and grateful.”
Bleich joined Anthropic about a year ago and worked under chief legal officer Brian Israel. Among his previous roles, he was the U.S. ambassador to Australia under former President Barack Obama.
In his LinkedIn post, Bleich also congratulated Anthropic’s associate general counsel Elena Leichty, who will be his successor. Leichty joined the AI company in July 2023, after working as the corporate legal counsel at Google for several years, according to Law.com, which has additional coverage.
