Google launched the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform this week, a product the company describes as the evolution of Vertex AI that will absorb all of Vertex AI’s services and future development going forward.

Technical teams are the primary audience for the platform, which centralizes agent development, governance, scaling, and optimization in one place. Google said Vertex AI’s existing services and future development will be folded into the Agent Platform entirely, ending Vertex AI’s run as a separate offering.

Model Garden, the platform’s model catalog, gives developers access to over 200 options — among them Google’s Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, and Lyria 3, open-weight models like Gemma 4, and Claude Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku from Anthropic, the company said.

The platform is organized around four functions. Developers can build agents using either a low-code visual interface called Agent Studio or a code-first tool called the Agent Development Kit. A re-engineered Agent Runtime supports long-running agents that maintain state for multiple days. Governance tools include Agent Identity, which assigns each agent a cryptographic ID, and Agent Gateway, which enforces security policies across agent ecosystems. Optimization tools include Agent Simulation and Agent Evaluation for testing and monitoring agent performance.

According to TechCrunch, the platform is positioned primarily for IT and technical teams, while business users are directed to Google’s separately announced Gemini Enterprise app for tasks such as scheduling, file editing, and repetitive process automation. According to TechCrunch, the launch positions Google directly against Amazon’s Bedrock AgentCore and Microsoft Foundry.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the platform at the company’s Google Cloud Next conference, according to TechCrunch.

Several large companies said they are already using the platform. Comcast said it rebuilt its Xfinity Assistant using the Agent Development Kit to deliver personalized troubleshooting. PayPal said it uses the platform to build and deploy agents in production, including for agent-based payments. Color Health said it uses the platform to power a virtual cancer clinic that helps schedule breast cancer screenings. L’Oréal said it is using the Agent Development Kit to build its own internal agentic platform connected to its data systems.

According to The Next Web, Agentspace — Google’s internal employee assistant — was merged into the broader Gemini Enterprise product, and the Agent Development Kit hit a stable 1.0 milestone with support spanning Python, Go, Java, and TypeScript. The Agent2Agent protocol, designed for cross-platform agent communication, is now running live workloads at 150 organizations, The Next Web reported.

Google has cast its competitive pitch in terms of full-stack ownership — chips, models, cloud runtime, and Workspace as a distribution channel — arguing that neither AWS nor Microsoft Azure can match that combination. Google Cloud posted $17.7 billion in fourth-quarter 2025 revenue, with an operating margin above 30%, as the company continues to pour capital into AI infrastructure.
