Demis Hassabis, the “father of AlphaGo” and co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, will visit Korea this week. During his trip, he will hold a special dialogue with Lee Sedol, a 9-dan Go master and distinguished professor at UNIST, whom he faced through AlphaGo 10 years ago.
According to the information and communications technology (ICT) industry on Wednesday, Hassabis will attend the “Google for Korea 2026” event to be held in Seoul on Nov. 29. At the event, he will engage in a dialogue with Lee under the theme of “10 Years of AlphaGo: A Vision of AI for Everyone.”
“Google for Korea 2026” was organized to revisit how AI technology has expanded beyond the research stage into industry and everyday life since the emergence of AlphaGo. Hassabis’ public visit to Korea marks his first in 10 years, since the match between AlphaGo and Lee.
At the opening of the event, Google Korea President Yoon Gu will deliver a presentation under the theme “Seoul Again: AI Innovation that Google and Korea Will Build Together.”
