Google has announced several new Gemini-powered features coming to Google TV devices, along with a new home screen row that you’ll likely ignore, along with the other rows you don’t care about. A new “Short videos for you” row will be added to the home screen with YouTube Shorts and may expand to include TikTok and Instagram short clips in the future. The row will be added this summer in the US, but the other new features will arrive sooner.
Google previously announced that Nano Banana image creation and Veo video creation AI features would be coming to Google TV devices. Those will start rolling out today to TCL Google TVs in the US and then come to other streaming devices. These let you use voice commands to request the generation of images and videos from the Gemini tab.
If you use Google Photos, you’ll soon be able to use Gemini to find specific photos in your library. Search results will be displayed in a browsable page where you can select photos to view in full-screen. From there, you can use another new feature called Google Photos Remix, which allows you to transform a photo using one of several styles, such as sketch, pixel art, cartoon, and anime. These are both coming to US devices first.
The final new feature, and the only one being released globally, is dynamic Google Photos slideshows. Selecting any Google Photos album from the screensaver settings under “Quick Settings” will generate a dynamic slideshow with varying colors and collages.
