Google is reportedly rolling out a significant redesign of its Gemini app, aiming to deliver a more intuitive and visually engaging experience for users across platforms. While the update is currently visible to a limited number of iOS users, it signals a broader shift in how the company envisions everyday interactions with AI-powered tools. A wider rollout timeline, including availability on Android devices, has not yet been confirmed.
According to a report by a famous publication, the redesign touches nearly every aspect of the app—from the homepage to chat interactions—bringing a more cohesive and modern interface. One of the most noticeable changes is the introduction of a pill-shaped prompt box on the homepage. This redesigned input field places quick-access options like voice input and Gemini Live on the right side, while a newly added “plus” button opens a bottom sheet for expanded functionality.
This bottom sheet centralises access to several features, including Photos, Camera, recent images, Files, Notebooks, and other upload options. The move is expected to simplify how users interact with media and documents within the app, making multitasking more seamless.
Another major addition is a unified tools section, where capabilities such as Images, Videos, Music, Canvas, Deep Research, and Guided Learning are grouped together. Each tool is accompanied by a brief description, helping users better understand and navigate the app’s growing feature set. This layout has already been tested on Android and desktop web versions, and is currently live on Gemini for Mac.
Visually, the app has undergone a noticeable transformation. The homepage now greets users with the message, “Hi [name], what’s on your mind?”, displayed prominently beneath a Gemini spark icon. A softly animated gradient background adds a dynamic feel without overwhelming the interface.
Navigation has also been reworked for clarity and accessibility. The model picker has returned to the top-left corner as a dropdown menu, while the account switcher has been repositioned to the bottom of the navigation drawer—marking a departure from Google’s typical design patterns. Additionally, thinner, rounded icons contribute to a cleaner and more modern visual identity.
Changes extend into chat interactions as well. The “See thinking steps” option has been relocated to an overflow menu, with detailed reasoning now presented in a bottom sheet format. This adjustment aims to keep conversations uncluttered while still offering transparency when needed.
On iOS, the redesign appears to draw inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, introducing enhanced depth and smoother animations. While still in limited release, the update highlights Google’s continued efforts to refine Gemini into a more user-friendly and versatile AI assistant.
