Microsoft is discontinuing development of Xbox Copilot for consoles and will gradually phase out Copilot on mobile devices, new Xbox head Asha Sharma announced.

The announcement comes after a reorganization of the Xbox platform team, which also includes executives from CoreAI, Microsoft’s AI division, where Sharma worked before joining Xbox.

Sharma said the company wants to move the Xbox platform forward faster, work more closely with the community, and remove “friction” for players and developers. As part of these changes, Microsoft will begin to phase out features that “do not align with the future direction” of Xbox.

Microsoft introduced Copilot for Gaming back in 2025 as an AI assistant for games. The company said the service would help launch games, search for information, get tips, and interact with Xbox features through AI.

Microsoft also announced in March that Copilot for Gaming would be coming to current-gen consoles this year. Now, the company has completely halted development of that version of the service.

Asha Sharma took over Xbox in February after Phil Spencer left. Since then, Microsoft has already made several big changes to the division, including dropping the Microsoft Gaming brand and lowering the cost of Xbox Game Pass.
