Uh they’re in closing arguments right now and it’s uh a lot of fun. Uh basically you have uh the uh uh plaintiffs, Elon Musk’s side, saying, look, man, everybody has said that, you know, at some point Sam Altman was a liar or deceitful or or or in some way or another.

Uh, the uh uh defendant side, the uh OpenAI side for Altman and Greg Brockman, OpenAI, they’re basically saying, uh, there the the whole point of this trial is that uh, allegedly Altman and Brockman duped Elon Musk.

He donated to a charity, they said, oh yeah, it’ll be a charity and then flipped it to a for-profit. But what the uh defense is saying is nobody said that Elon conditioned his donations on keeping this company as a nonprofit. So there’s this back and forth and I mean, you know, if you listen uh to to the trial throughout, it seemed as though Sam Altman uh kind of was coming out on top.

Uh there were a few times where he was slower to respond, uh he stumbled. Um Greg Brockman similarly had those issues where he was, you know, uh being uh getting tripped up in some of his answers. Uh, you know, but you could say the same thing about Elon Musk where he was a little more combative uh to the defense attorney. So, I I think right now it’s still very much up in the air.

Uh we will probably find out uh next week as to what the jury finds, but the jury’s finding is just a recommendation for the judge. The judge has the ultimate say in what happens here. And then barring uh uh any other issues, if we uh get uh something against OpenAI, we would have her then come out and say, okay, uh, here’s what’s going to happen. So she would come up with the uh the uh factors that, you know, maybe they have to split up or revert back to a nonprofit, things like that.

Here’s how The Verge put it, all right? They say, Sam Altman was winning on the stand, but it might not be enough. Musk may have done more long-term reputational damage to the open OpenAI CEO. What do you make of that?

I mean, it’s true, you know, I mean, when you look at what was said during the trial, I mean, you know, person after person uh uh that was called up as a witness uh seemed to say at some point they had an issue with uh Altman uh being deceptive or or lying or or things along those lines. Now, the the flip side of that was you had someone like Satya Nadella uh coming up and saying, uh, we were never given any clarity as to why Sam was let go. Uh and Altman himself said, I was wasn’t really given any clarity as as to what was going on at first and then we kind of hashed things out, I guess.

Uh and they point to the fact that the original board that fired them brought uh brought him back. So that’s kind of their way of of playing around uh that. But I do think, you know, that’s a good way of uh a good observation is that look, if everyone’s calling you a liar, it, you know, he went into this trial, I think everybody thinking, oh, well, he’s, you know, this this this genius and sure, he’s a he’s a obviously a smart guy, but now this kind of hangs over him as well.
