Anthropic to Brief Financial Stability Board on Cyber Weaknesses from AI Model Mythos - News and Statistics

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude chatbot, is preparing to brief the Financial Stability Board (FSB) on emerging cyber weaknesses in the global financial system, according to a report from the Financial Times published on Monday. The briefing was requested by Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, who chairs the FSB, an international body that coordinates financial regulations for G20 economies.

The company will present findings from its latest AI model, Mythos, to senior officials from leading finance ministries and central banks within the FSB. Anthropic announced Mythos last month, describing it as a cybersecurity model designed to identify vulnerabilities that have persisted for decades in web browsers, infrastructure, and software. The model has not yet been released to the public.

Cybersecurity specialists have cautioned that the system could enable more sophisticated cyberattacks, particularly threatening the banking sector, which depends on aging legacy technology. In April, Governor Bailey voiced concerns that Mythos could introduce significant security risks to the cyber landscape. Speaking at a Columbia University event in New York last month, Bailey noted that the model might be able to detect exploitable weaknesses in other systems for cyberattack purposes, calling it a potential challenge to global cyber stability.

Reuters could not independently confirm the report. Anthropic and the FSB did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
