GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV are feuding over an AI image Trump posted to his Truth Social page Sunday night.
The AI-generated image has sparked intense discussion, depicting Trump wearing a robe, holding a light in one hand, and placing the other hand on a man’s forehead.
Many said it looked like the president was comparing himself to Jesus, while Trump said he thought it was him as a doctor.
Nick Fields, a Greenville resident, said he saw the image on TikTok.
“I don’t really like the AI stuff, but go Trump, I guess,” Fields said.
Fields says he is a Christian and a Trump supporter. He feels the post is getting blown out of proportion.
“I think some people are taking it too far to the heart. It was kinda weird, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. Yeah, it’s Trump, so,” Fields said.
Lenora Green, a Greenville resident, said Trump has the right to post what he wants.
“For him to say it’s who he thinks he is. He has a right to do that, and we have a right to disagree,” Green said.
The pope spoke out against the image, and Green said she was glad to see it.
“It was wonderful to see a person of respect and authority speak above that. People would know that those who are in a position of authority. They have a voice, and we need that voice at this time,” Green said.
Trump has since removed the post, but conversations surrounding it are continuing. The White House has not responded to questions about the post.
