A new development in atomistic simulation aims to lower the technical barriers that have traditionally restricted the technology to specialists. According to Matlantis, a Tokyo-based company, an AI agent has been integrated into its universal atomistic simulator, enabling researchers to build and run simulations using natural-language instructions.

The release includes a public Skills library hosted on GitHub, which is available immediately. Additionally, an upcoming installer will allow Anthropic’s Claude Code to run directly inside the company’s terminal environment.

The company notes that atomistic simulation has historically required a combination of computational chemistry knowledge, programming fluency, and environmental expertise. This has kept the technology confined to specialists, even as other areas of materials research and development have become more cross-functional. The latest release targets what the company identifies as the last remaining barrier: the scripting layer that sits between a researcher’s question and a working simulation.

By embedding Claude Code within the technology and providing access to a domain-specific Skills library, Matlantis is connecting general-purpose agent capability to the specialized procedures and application programming interfaces that simulation work requires. Running the agent in-context means researchers can describe what they want to simulate in plain language, generate or edit the underlying scripts, run the calculation, and interpret outputs—all without leaving the workflow.

This development is positioned to benefit experimental researchers who lack programming fluency, making simulation a practical tool for them. For computational specialists, it is expected to remove the repetitive scripting work that typically lies between hypothesis and result.
