OpenAI is preparing to release an updated version of ChatGPT in the near future, according to the Financial Times. The new iteration is intended to function as a comprehensive platform, incorporating coding tools and autonomous software agents.

The company reportedly aims to strengthen its competitive position against Anthropic, especially among enterprise clients, while moving toward profitability ahead of a potential initial public offering. A key part of this strategy involves converting ChatGPT into a gateway that directs free users toward paid offerings, such as the coding product Codex. A senior OpenAI employee commented that traditional chat interfaces are no longer relevant.

Thibault Sottiaux, who oversees OpenAI’s core product and platform, stated that the company is developing a product where users would have a personal agent capable of assisting them across both personal and professional aspects of life.

Reports about OpenAI’s ambition to create a super app have circulated since last year. In March, The Wall Street Journal noted that these plans represent a significant strategic shift for the company, following the launch of several standalone products in 2025. OpenAI executives have indicated they are moving away from what they described as side projects, including the video generator Sora.
