Apple Introduces Siri AI with Google Gemini at WWDC 2026: Key Features - News and Statistics

Apple introduced a long-awaited AI-enhanced version of its Siri digital assistant during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday in Cupertino, California, according to a report from Yahoo Finance.

The upgraded assistant, branded as Siri AI, incorporates several improvements that align it more closely with competing AI helpers such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google‘s Gemini. Users can now engage in back-and-forth conversations and execute tasks through the assistant.

This update represents the most significant overhaul of Apple’s digital assistant in years, effectively transforming it into an AI hub for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Before the announcement, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, characterized the new Siri and the broader Apple Intelligence updates as more purposeful than those from other companies that add AI merely to claim they use the technology.

Siri AI is powered by Google’s own Gemini AI model. It is more conversational than its predecessor and features a dedicated app along with customizable voice options.

During demonstrations, Apple showed how users can ask Siri when a favorite artist is performing nearby. The assistant then provides upcoming tour dates and sets a reminder. The company also demonstrated how users can quickly ask Siri to play a single by that artist.

Users can also ask Siri to retrieve photos taken at different locations and then narrow the search to specific scenes without opening the Photos app. Apple stated that users will be able to ask Siri questions about topics friends and family send via Messages, obtaining needed information without scrolling through chats.

On the Mac, users can communicate with the new Siri through the Spotlight Search dialogue box. In one example, Apple demonstrated using Siri to find out more about files on the computer. For instance, if a user is shopping for a new shed and has multiple files outlining differences in various formats, they can highlight them and ask Siri to compare them. The assistant will create a chart outlining the differences. The user can then order the shed by telling Siri to draft an email via a prompt.

The dedicated Siri app allows users to review previous conversations or start new ones. These conversations are accessible across the iPhone, Mac, and iPad.

Users can also access Siri via the camera, allowing them to take a picture of a meal to get nutritional information or snap a shot of a dinner bill to split it with friends.

Writing Tools enables users to write documents with Siri by giving it a prompt. The assistant can also critique writing when prompted.
