A Bucks County man has been arrested after police said he used Grok, X’s AI chatbot, to create child sexual abuse material.
Harry Tiffany IV, 66, of New Britain, was charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography, and criminal use of a communication facility.
According to a press release from the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, on May 20 the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) forwarded several tips to authorities about flagged image files that were uploaded or shared through the Grok chatbot interface between April 15-25.
Upon analyzing the data, Bucks County detectives were able to track the email and IP address directly to Tiffany’s residence and personal electronic devices,
On June 5, police executed a search warrant of Tiffany’s home. They examined his mobile device and found the Grok application was active and logged into the specific account flagged by NCMEC. It contained multiple computer-generated files depicting minors.
The charges came one day after Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan announced an expansion of the county’s federal lawsuit against social media giants, including X, as well as the video game platform Roblox.
“Yesterday, we took a historic stand in federal court to hold corporations like X Corp. and Roblox accountable for creating tools that exploit developing minds and fuel a child safety crisis,” Khan said in a statement. “Today, we see the stark reality of those localized harms right here in our community. Whether a predator is utilizing AI applications to generate illicit material or hiding behind gaming platforms to lure our children, the dangers are immediate. While we aggressively pursue these tech giants in court for their reckless and dangerous designs, our detectives and prosecutors remain hyper-vigilant on the ground, arresting and convicting the predators who leverage these platforms.”
Tiffany was arraigned on Tuesday morning by Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage. His bail was set at $200,000.
