Just months after moving to legally protect his voice, likeness and signature catchphrases from unauthorized artificial intelligence clones, Austin’s Minister of Culture is putting artificial intelligence to work on his own terms.

Matthew McConaughey is partnering with voice artificial intelligence company ElevenLabs, in which he is an investor, to launch a campaign ahead of the World Cup that delivers his voice in multiple languages.

The campaign, created for his tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila, features McConaughey welcoming soccer fans from around the world. He offers a suggestion: Before trying to speak a new language, warm up with tequila. Fans can watch the campaign at SpeakSoccer.com.

McConaughey recorded the original English version himself. ElevenLabs then used AI technology — with his permission — to recreate his voice in multiple languages.

The Oscar-winning actor recently secured eight federal trademarks covering elements of his identity, including his voice, likeness and the famous “Alright, alright, alright” catchphrase from the film “Dazed and Confused.”

McConaughey’s position on AI has largely been that the technology itself is not the problem — unauthorized use is. The actor has previously worked with ElevenLabs on Spanish-language versions of his “Lyrics of Livin'” newsletter.
