SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — The Mid-South is now powering the war in Iran.
The Department of Defense wants a pollution lawsuit by the NAACP against xAI to be thrown out, saying the Southaven power plant is necessary to fight the war with Iran.
In a new filing, the defense department says it uses xAi’s Grok — powered in the Mid-South — to run national security operations in the Middle East, including airstrikes. It says the Department of Defense uses Grok for military targeting, intelligence gathering and planning.

The filing says that the “Grok Government Model” was used in more than 2,000 strikes in the first three days of “Operation Epic Fury in Iran.” Now, the DOD says if xAI’s turbines are removed due to the NAACP’s lawsuit, US military operations in the Middle East are in jeopardy.
The filing describes xAI’s current data center capacity as “a matter of paramount national security,” writing that “this action directly threatens our ongoing national security interests.”
This is one of a dozen new filings Monday in the NAACP lawsuit.
