As of 8:23 pm, outage tracking website Downdetector showed that reports in India had climbed to over 900, indicating a widespread disruption.
According to the data, around 79 per cent of users reported general outages, while 11 per cent faced issues with the mobile application and 5 per cent flagged problems accessing ChatGPT through web browsers.
OpenAI confirmed the disruptions, stating that the issue is impacting both ChatGPT and its AI coding assistant Codex.
On its official status page, the company said users are currently unable to load the services and the matter is under active investigation.
The status dashboard also flagged a phase of “degraded performance”, with system uptime for ChatGPT dropping to 99.85 per cent as engineers work to identify the root cause behind the connection failures.
