The investment firm upgraded the e-commerce name to buy from hold. It also hiked its price target on shares to $150 from $110, suggesting nearly 22% upside from Thursday&#8217;s close. &#8220;Shopify&#8217;s outsized [gross merchandise value] growth is clear evidence of consistent share-gains, which we believe will accelerate as agentic commerce proliferates,&#8221; analyst J. Parker Lane wrote. &#8220;Management explicitly frames strength as broad-based across geographies, merchant sizes and channels, versus any single driver.&#8221; Agentic commerce refers to the use of artificial intelligence-powered bots to find and purchase goods on behalf of a consumer or business. The global agentic AI market is projected to grow to $24.5 billion by 2030, according to a recent report from market research firm Grand View Research. Despite those expectations of growth, monetization of AI in retail &#8220;is early,&#8221; Lane noted, suggesting that its impact on shares will likely take time to fully materialize. &#8220;Every client is exploring agentic commerce, and Shopify has made it easy to adopt, with a &#8216;flick of a button&#8217; to enable,&#8221; Lane wrote. &#8220;It&#8217;s an emerging new channel that merchants are still figuring out, with agent-driven traffic still challenging to measure, and certain products not being a good fit relative to more retail\/consumer goods.&#8221; Nevertheless, the analyst said &#8220;AI adoption is real,&#8221; and it could eventually soon drive considerable upside to Shopify&#8217;s shares. Stifel&#8217;s call falls in line with consensus on Wall Street. Of the 47 analysts covering Shopify, 36 have a buy or strong buy on the stock.
