Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reportedly directed staff at the electric vehicle company to shift toward using Grok, the AI model from his artificial intelligence company xAI. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Musk told staff to adopt Grok 4.5 wherever possible, citing its significantly lower token costs compared to competing models, The Information reported<\/a>, citing a memo sent to staff. He also asked engineers to email him directly with feedback on the model\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

The directive follows Tesla\u2019s decision earlier in the week to impose a $200 weekly cap on individual employee spending for external AI tools, effective Monday, the report further noted.<\/p>\n

The move coincides with the release of Grok 4.5 on Wednesday to counter Anthropic\u2019s recent model Claude Fable 5. The model was developed jointly with Cursor, the AI coding platform whose parent company SpaceX is acquiring in a deal valued at $60 billion. SpaceXAI has described Grok 4.5 as optimized for engineering, coding, scientific work, and general productivity tasks.<\/p>\n

The fresh directive is the latest example of Elon Musk\u2019s long-standing approach of tightly interconnecting his various companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, xAI\/SpaceXAI, and The Boring Company, through talent sharing, technology transfers, financial investments, and joint projects. SpaceXAI\u2019s Grok powers in-car voice assistance in Tesla vehicles, SpaceX and Tesla are together developing a massive semiconductor fabrication called Terafab, and several Cybertrucks have been deployed at SpaceX factories.<\/p>\n

The companies are also invested in one another. Tesla announced a $2 billion investment in xAI earlier in 2026, which transferred to investment in SpaceX after the rocket manufacturer acquired the Grok parent earlier this year. xAI was subsequently renamed as SpaceXAI, and all AI-development efforts were compiled under the segment at SpaceX.<\/p>\n

On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around TSLA stock stayed within the \u2018bullish\u2019 territory over the past 24 hours, while message volume remained at \u2018normal\u2019 levels.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, sentiment around SpaceX remained \u2018bearish,\u2019 accompanied by \u2018extremely low\u2019 message volume.<\/p>\n

While TSLA stock<\/a> has fallen 9% year-to-date, SPCX<\/a> has fallen 10% since debuting on the Nasdaq last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n
