{"id":104876,"date":"2026-07-14T04:07:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T04:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/104876\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T04:07:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T04:07:07","slug":"openais-feud-with-musks-xai-carries-on-as-apple-secrets-fight-revs-up-world-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/104876\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI&#8217;s feud with Musk&#8217;s xAI carries on as Apple secrets fight revs up | World News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tBy Peter Blumberg<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tOpenAI asked a judge to find that a lawsuit filed by xAI Corp. accusing the ChatGPT maker of trade secret theft \u201cshould never have been filed\u201d and seeks to recoup more than $1 million in legal expenses from Elon Musk\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSam Altman\u2019s artificial intelligence startup filed its request Monday, hours after the maker of the Grok chatbot gave notice that it intends to appeal its repeatedly dismissed claims that OpenAI poached employees and encouraged them to steal confidential information.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tMonday\u2019s developments will likely keep OpenAI\u2019s feud with xAI alive for months to come even as a blockbuster suit filed Friday by Apple Inc. leveling similar accusations against OpenAI is just getting under way. OpenAI is poised for an initial public offering in the coming months<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cxAI sued OpenAI first and looked for evidence later, forcing OpenAI to spend substantial resources defeating a sprawling, aggressively litigated trade secret claim for which xAI had no evidentiary support,\u201d OpenAI\u2019s lawyers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tA lawyer for xAI didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tA San Francisco federal judge initially dismissed xAI\u2019s suit in February, saying the company failed to demonstrate any misconduct by OpenAI and instead merely pointed to eight former xAI employees who left for OpenAI at around the same time.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\txAI filed an amended complaint in March after an unsuccessful bid for a six-month extension to bolster its claims. In June, US District Judge Rita Lin again threw out the suit. She said the new allegations \u2014 including claims about OpenAI asking a new hire to talk about past work \u2014 attempted to paint \u201croutine\u201d parts of the hiring process as nefarious efforts to induce trade secrets theft.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn its suit, the iPhone maker alleges that OpenAI encouraged Apple employees to share information, components, drawings and other materials related to upcoming products \u2014 part of efforts by the AI company to develop its own suite of devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tApple is seeking monetary damages and an order requiring OpenAI to halt the alleged conduct and destroy any proprietary materials. Legal remedies could take months or years to materialize.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn response to Apple\u2019s complaint, OpenAI said it has \u201cno interest in other companies\u2019 trade secrets\u201d and would \u201cremain focused on building innovative technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe xAI case is X.AI Corp. v.
