{"id":106494,"date":"2026-07-15T08:03:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T08:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/106494\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T08:03:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T08:03:12","slug":"vatican-hosts-nobel-laureates-experts-to-discuss-ai-security-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/106494\/","title":{"rendered":"Vatican hosts Nobel laureates, experts to discuss AI security risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The July 14\u201316 summit is being held at the Borgo Laudato Si\u2019 gardens at Castel Gandolfo.<\/p>\n<p>The Vatican this week is hosting over 200 top academics, innovators, and Nobel laureates for a global summit on AI security risks, inspired by Pope Leo XIV\u2019s encyclical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtnnews.com\/vatican\/full-text-of-magnifica-humanitas-read-pope-leo-xiv-s-first-encyclical\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Magnifica Humanitas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event, the Global Nobel Laureates Assembly on Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear War, is taking place July 14\u201316 at Borgo Laudato Si\u2019, part of the Pontifical Gardens at Castel Gandolfo, where the pope is staying until July 27.<\/p>\n<p>The summit is inspired by the pontiff\u2019s recent encyclical on AI, \u201cdedicated to the protection of the human person in the age of artificial intelligence,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalnobelassembly.org\/media\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">July 6 press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event also includes discussions on nuclear disarmament and AI governance, and will culminate in the drafting of a declaration for \u201can unarmed and disarming peace in the age of artificial intelligence, nuclear and autonomous weapons, new digital protocols, and emerging models of digital development\u201d at the Palazzo Senatorio, Rome\u2019s city hall.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the world\u2019s leading universities, including Catholic universities such as the University of Notre Dame and The Catholic University of America, have also sponsored the three-day gathering.<\/p>\n<p>AI governance and the threat of nuclear war<\/p>\n<p>In his recent encyclical and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtnnews.com\/vatican\/pope-leo-xiv-says-violence-is-a-last-resort-rejects-trump-s-claim-about-supporting-nuclear\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">several public addresses<\/a>, Pope Leo XIV has warned about the threats posed by nuclear weapons and the misuse of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Alessio Pecorario, an organizer of the summit and founder of the Domus Communis Foundation, described the event as a response to the pope\u2019s call for disarmament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisarmament in the Church\u2019s social doctrine is not only the disarmament of weapons, obviously, but also the disarmament of spirits; it is the disarmament of the economy,\u201d Pecorario told EWTN News.<\/p>\n<p>The conference \u201cis about the governance of artificial intelligence,\u201d he said. \u201cThis governance should be understood not as bureaucracy but as a collective of business, religious, and academic leaders, to help ensure that human beings remain in positive control of the challenges of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Javier Romero, Vatican correspondent for \u201cEWTN Noticias,\u201d contributed to this story.
