Google is redesigning Google Images as a personalised discovery platform, adding a browsable image feed, Collections and AI image generation within Search, according to a blog post shared by Google.<\/p>\n
The update, announced as Google Images marks 25 years, shifts the platform beyond keyword-led image searches towards an experience centred on browsing and visual inspiration.<\/p>\n
A new \u2018For You\u2019 section will recommend images based on users\u2019 interests and browsing activity. The interface will support continuous scrolling and update recommendations as users browse.<\/p>\n
The format draws comparisons with Pinterest, where users discover and organise visual ideas through personalised feeds. The redesign could also encourage users to spend more time within Google\u2019s ecosystem for image discovery and creation rather than using third-party platforms.<\/p>\n
Users will be able to save images and ideas to Collections, which will appear as tabs above the main image gallery. Collections can be organised around themes such as travel, clothing or interior design, allowing users to revisit saved content.<\/p>\n
The redesigned Google Images experience will begin rolling out on desktop in the United States over the coming weeks. It will initially be available in English and require users to sign in to a Google Account.<\/p>\n
Google is also introducing AI image generation within Search. The feature will allow users to create images from text prompts through AI Overviews and is intended for visual requests where an existing image may not be available online.<\/p>\n
The image-generation capability is powered by Nano Banana, Google\u2019s image-generation model. It can be used to visualise ideas, reimagine spaces and create custom images without leaving Search.<\/p>\n
